April 28, 2019 - workshop with Rachel Clemente 2-4 PM
Essentials of Scottish Music
Doors open at 1:30 PM at Bashford United Methodist Church
329 North St, Madison WI
Scottish music is steeped in centuries of tradition and it gained great popularity in the U.S. during the folk music revival of the seventies and eighties. The focus of this workshop will be on the different Scottish tune types and their unique characteristics of ornamentation, rhythm, and harmony as well as language and instrumentation. We will apply our new knowledge to learn two great traditional tunes that sound distinctly Scottish!  Music handouts will be provided.
Please RSVP

Rachel Clemente started her studies with harpist Candyce Dunham until attending the renowned arts boarding school, Interlochen Arts Academy under Joan Holland. Her time at the Royal Conservatoire was spent studying under harpist and composer, Corrina Hewat. Rachel won the title of U.S. National Scottish Harp Champion in 2016.

Visitors are welcome to all harp circles.  For workshops, everyone present should pay the fee unless they are accompanying a child.  If you have questions about the group or want to learn more about harping in Madison or what a harp circle is, please contact Rachel (608-663-2912).

Music swap - have any music you're no longer playing? Bring it to the next harp circle, put a sticky note with your name and how much you'd like for the music, and see if it finds a new home!
